The Cadigal called it Tallawoladah and lit cooking fires on this headland long before 1788. Cadman's Cottage went up in 1816 and is still the oldest surviving house in Sydney. Then the bubonic plague arrived in 1900 and the government demolished three thousand eight hundred buildings and wharves.
