Convicts carved a bench out of the sandstone in 1810 because Governor Macquarie wanted somewhere for his wife Elizabeth to sit. The story is that she watched for ships coming in from Britain. It is still the spot where the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge line up in one frame, and it costs nothing.
WHY IT’S WORTH IT
